Tarea Anderson - Vocalist
Soulful, sassy and melodic are how audience members depict the voice of Tarea Anderson. She is the 2004 winner of 105.9 FM's Sexiest Jazz Vocalist Competition. She has shared the stage with artists such as Najee, Marcus Johnson, and the James Cotton Band during their performances at Blues Alley Jazz Supper Club.
Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in its metropolitan area, Tarea attended Bowie State University where she performed as a vocalist in the university's Jazz Ensemble. She also sang first and second soprano in the university's choir. Vocal greats Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Betty Carter, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Phyllis Hyman and Rachelle Ferrell are major influences on the artist.
Washington, D.C.'s presence of Soul, R&B, Go-Go and Hip-Hop music has had an impact on the vocalist. Although this allows her to be a versatile performer, Jazz is where Tarea feels most at home. Compositions like those composed by D.C.'s own, the great Duke Ellington are both challenging and comforting for the artist. Audiences appreciate her soulful renditions of the standards and consider her voice a unique yet familiar instrument.
Tarea has been encouraged by many great artists along with loved ones to follow her dream. Join her as she experiences its realization.
